Is peepal a male or female plant?

The peepal tree is not specifically categorized as a male or female plant. However, it is often paired with the banyan tree, which is considered its counterpart. In Indian tradition, the banyan tree is symbolically regarded as masculine, while the peepal tree is considered feminine. These two trees are often planted together and are associated with various myths and rituals. However, in terms of botany, the peepal tree can have both male and female flowers on the same individual tree, making it a monoecious species. Monoecious plants have both male and female reproductive structures present on the same plant. Therefore, it is more accurate to say that the peepal tree encompasses both male and female characteristics.
